I am pleased to announce that in January 2007, the Journal of Mechanical Design will begin monthly publication. Over the past four years the rate of submissions has doubled, as has the number of published papers. And the journal has grown to serve a global research community. The web-based submission statistics show that close to 1600 papers from 57 countries have been submitted since January 2003, with less than 30% coming from the United States.

Every day I am honored to see how the voluntary efforts of authors, reviewers, and associate editors, individually committed to the advancement of mechanical design research, merge to build and support a thriving intellectual community. This is a global collaborative effort that we must value and nurture because we all benefit from it.
