Roll separating force and roll torque are studied in cold rolling of steel and aluminum strips. In the analysis roll deformation is accounted for by a numerical technique; in the experimental portion force and torque transducers are used to monitor the variables. It is concluded that in spite of using average constant frictional coefficients, the technique of Atreya and Lenard predicts roll force and torque somewhat better than Orowan’s approach.
