Plastics are relatively expensive materials. Their usefulness stems from styling freedom in design – allowing for parts with complex surfaces – and from the complexity of parts that can be made – thereby cutting inventory and assembly costs. Together with part complexity, low-cost partmanufacturing is what makes the use of otherwise expensive plastic materials competitive.
