Knowledge of transient voltages is very important to ensure the integrity of the transformer insulation system. According to Doble studies, 16.4% of power transformer failures are due to insulation faults. Hence power transformer insulation needs to be optimally dimensioned to withstand impulse voltage conditions. It necessitates understanding of impulse voltage distribution of power transformer windings and associated stresses in various parts of the transformer. In this paper, a transformer was modeled for impulse voltage distribution and the analytical results are compared with low voltage impulse measurements.
