The use of sandwich structures is increasing rapidly. It is used in many applications ranging from satellites, aircraft, ships, automobiles, rail cars, and in bridge construction to mention only a few. The purpose of the following review article is to provide a general introduction to or discussion of the structural mechanics involved in the field of sandwich structures and a sufficient number of references to enable the reader to further investigate his/her specific interests. Like all reviews, it is limited by the knowledge of the author and a reasonable length for the article. This article has 174 references.
