Mechanical stimulation of a bone fracture can alter the course of tissue differentiation . Quantitative characterization of this mechano-regulatory effect has great therapeutic potential. For example, mechano-regulation theories are already being applied to tailor scaffold designs in tissue engineering applications . Approaches such as these may lead to improved treatment of bone and joint degeneration as well as treatment of orthopedic injuries.
