Abstract

For the stress-strain relationships of human lung parenchyma, the present state of the art is that the form of the constitutive equations is known, but the material constants are unknown, and must be determined by new measurements. The objective of this study is to determine these constants by means of biaxial experiments on excised human lung parenchyma. Dynamic biaxial tests were done, and strain vs. Lagrangian stress curves were recorded. The experimental data were fitted with a pseudo-elastic constitutive equation and the physical constants could be identified.
