Abstract

The dynamic response of a circular cylinder subject to cross-flows is analyzed using the wake oscillator model of Iwan and Blevins. The nonlinear differential equations for the system is solved by an approximate algebraic method and the results are compared against full numerical solutions with excellent concordance. Also we have compared the predictions of tube displacements and vortex frequencies with available experimental data. Finally, the computational fluid dynamics code ADINA-F and the structural mechanics code ADINA are used concurrently to study the dynamic behavior of the system.
