Preparative chromatography involves column design from a biomechanical as well as from a biochemical perspective. Column collapse is a costly phenomena if expensive resins are used as the matrix material. This is particularly true for the soft gels that are useful for the separation of large water-soluble molecules, such as proteins. The model molecule for this research is human Protein C which is being separated from transgenic animal milk. Human Protein C is an important anticoagulant and antithrombotic in the human bloodstream .
