Wear behaviour of the Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) insert in tibial components of total knee implants is believed to be influenced by the contact conditions occurring at the femoro-tibial interface. The wear debris which is generated in the vicinity of the implant is known to evoke undesirable effects and limits the long term survival rates of total knee replacement Mc Gloughlin et al .
