A radio telemeter was designed and fabricated for gear bulk temperature measurement. The temperature telemeter developed in the paper is based on the principle of an inductor-capacitor (L-C) tuned electronic oscillator. A temperature sensitive capacitor has been integrated into an electronic circuit of an L-C oscillator as a frequency-controlling element. The change in the value of the capacitor due to temperature variation is translated into modulation in the oscillator frequency. This change in frequency, with proper calibration, permits accurate bulk temperature measurements of the gear. The Surface Mount Component and Photolithography technology were employed to fabricate the miniature temperature radio telemeter. Various test results will be presented. These results have proven that the telemeter is a useful device in measuring gear bulk temperature.
