The waterside temperature field in a plane perpendicular to the air-water interface plays a dominant role during natural convection process. In the present study non-intrusive laser induced fluorescence technique has been used to investigate the temperature field of turbulent thermal convection in horizontal water layers during natural convection. Spatial distribution of the temperature field in a plane perpendicular to the surface shows the presence of the dark and bright regions that correspond to the falling cold and rising warm water, respectively. The horizontally averaged temperature profiles show a characteristic boundary layer distribution in the near surface region.
