Experiments have been performed to assess the validity of void fraction measurements obtained from a wire mesh sensor over a range of bubble size distributions in air-water two-phase flow. The bubble size was varied by adding surfactant to the water. The measurements were compared to those obtained from pressure difference and gamma densitometry. Good agreement was found for the case of surfactant-free water; however, the agreement deteriorated with the addition of surfactant, as the wire mesh sensor generated lower void fraction values than either of the other two methods, which showed good agreement with each other.
